Patchogue Woman Struck, Killed on East Main Street

Crash claims the life of Patchogue's Maria Loja Thursday night.

A Patchogue woman was struck and killed while attempting to cross East Main Street Thursday night, police said.

Police say Maria Loja, 43, was crossing the road in front of 350 East Main Street, near Mi Tierrita, when she was hit by a westbound 2007 Chevy truck.

Loja, who lived on Norton Street near the crash scene, was transported by Patchogue Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, where she died of her injuries, police said.

The driver of the truck, Peter Lee Ihne, 58, of East Patchogue, was not injured in the crash. No criminal charges have been filed.

The investigation into the crash is continuing and police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the Fifth Squad detectives at 631-854-8552.

i see it all the time that people walk around with dark clothing at night and step into the street. You just can't seem them sometimes. A little caution on everyone's part would help end these tragedies.
