Tractor-Trailer Ablaze On LIE In Medford Crash

Driver of pickup truck sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized, according to Newsday report.

A pickup truck on the Long Island Expressway lost control near the entrance ramp at exit 63 in Medford and crashed into a tractor-trailer carrying plywood that caught on fire Monday morning, Suffolk County police told Newsday.

According to Newsday's report, the crash took place around 6:45 a.m., and the driver of the pickup truck was trapped. Police tell Newsday that the pickup truck driver had to be extricated by the tractor-trailer driver and a passerby. While neither driver was identified, the tractor-trailer driver suffered minor injuries but was not hospitalized. The pickup truck driver however was hospitalized for minor injuries, and taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue. The person's condition was not known according to the report.

According to the report, the eastbound side of the highway was closed at exit 62 until 8:09 a.m. when it re-opened. Volunteer firefighters from Medford and Yaphank put out the fire. No charges were filed in the crash, according to the report.
